Single-vehicle wreck on Chinatown feeder ramp leaves Evanston driver dead

A 34-year-old Evanston man was killed during a single-vehicle crash early Thursday on the Chinatown feeder ramp of I-94.

State troopers responded to the crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 94 at Cermak Road around 1 a.m., Illinois state police said.

Alexander Smith, of Evanston, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:09 a.m., state police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

All lanes of I-94 at Cermak Road were shut down around 1:10 a.m. and reopened just before 4 a.m., authorities said.
