Cyclist struck by motorist in Englewood dies

The cyclist, a 56-year-old man, was struck by a motorist July 5 in the 6300 block of South Halsted Street. He died Friday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, and his death is ruled an accident.

A southwest suburban man has died days after he was struck by a car while biking in Englewood.

Shaheed Muhammed, 56, was biking around 2:30 p.m. July 5 in the 6300 block of South Halsted Street when a motorist struck him and fled northbound, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Muhammed, of Burr Ridge, was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 8 p.m. Friday, officials said.

His death was ruled an accident, according to an autopsy.

CPD’s Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
