A police pursuit in Blue Island ended on Chicago’s Far South Side when an SUV ran a red light and plowed into three vehicles, including a Pace bus, injuring nine people Wednesday night, police said.

Around 7:20 p.m., the SUV, driven by a 31-year-old man with a 34-year-old male passenger, was going east on Vermont Street near the 12700 block of South Halsted Street when the driver ran a red light and struck two cars and a Pace bus, Chicago police said.

Officers from the Blue Island Police Department were trying to a stop the SUV when its driver fled, ABC7Chicago reported.

The two men in the SUV were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where they were in critical condition, police said.

A third man in the SUV was also taken to Christ, where he was in good condition, officials said.

A 27-year-old woman driving a sedan was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was in good condition, officials said. A 6-year-old boy who was a passenger in the sedan was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was also in good condition.

Three women on the bus, 32, 62 and 66, were taken to Roseland Hospital in good condition, authorities said. A fourth woman on the bus, 46, was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition. Police initially said no injuries were reported on the bus.

Occupants of another sedan declined medical attention, police said.

No citations or charges have been announced by police.
